Tyler Madell is a Program Director at Shared Mobility Inc., where he develops and implements innovative programs that expand access to affordable and sustainable transportation. Since joining SMI in 2020, Tyler has led the development and implementation of e-bike rebate programs, including the first e-bike rebate program in New York State. He also manages state-funded grant projects and contributes to the planning and strategic direction of Reddy Bikeshare.

Tyler has helped launch the first e-bike library programs in the country and has worked on projects including Reddy Bikeshare’s Clean Mobility Buffalo expansion, Bike Stockton, Project MOVER, and clean mobility planning initiatives with the Capital District Transportation Authority, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, and Village of Angola.

Tyler’s work has also contributed to SMI’s research on electric micromobility and clean mobility planning, including Informing Electric Micromobility Policy through Demonstrations and Planning (2023) and the 2025 Clean Mobility Plans developed for CDTA, the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, and the Village of Angola.

Tyler holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Political Science from SUNY Purchase and a Master of Urban Planning from the University at Buffalo. He has also presented on the benefits of e-bikes to the New York State Assembly Transportation Committee.

Outside of his work at SMI, Tyler enjoys traveling by bicycle and has ridden across the United States twice. His travels have given him the opportunity to experience transportation systems across the country and further shaped his interest in how bicycle infrastructure, public transportation, and shared mobility can make communities more accessible and connected.
