Shared Mobility Inc. (SMI) is a nationally-focused nonprofit based in Buffalo that advances innovative transportation services through a shared-access mentality. SMI works to develop, deploy, operate, and grow shared mobility programs like bikeshare, e-bike libraries, and other innovative transportation options.
SMI is the operator and parent nonprofit of Reddy Bikeshare and CDPHP Cycle! which consists of over 1,000 shared electric and standard e-bikes. SMI works with community-based organizations, private sector partners, and municipal leaders nationwide to help make the way people get around more equitable, efficient, and environmentally sustainable.

Position Summary
SMI is seeking a highly motivated Climate Justice Fellowship Planner for a 12-month, full-time position as part of the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)’s Climate Justice Fellowship Program. This role is designed for an emerging professional who is ready to contribute meaningfully to real-world clean transportation initiatives while accelerating their career in climate justice and mobility planning.
The Fellow will be embedded in SMI’s active projects, gaining hands-on experience in equitable transportation planning, shared micromobility system development, grant administration, and public-sector collaboration. From mobility hub planning to e-bike rebate implementation, the Fellow will help design and support programs that expand access to clean transportation in disadvantaged communities.
The position is hired through the NYSERDA’s Climate Justice Fellowship program, which supports New Yorkers interested in developing the skillsets for careers that advance climate justice and clean energy priorities for disadvantaged communities.
Mobility Planning (approx. 30%)
The Fellow will work at the cutting edge of developing clean transportation programs that advance access to affordable transportation in upstate NY communities. This role will involve direct hands-on experience working with upstate leaders in innovative mobility solutions, including professionals at municipalities, community based organizations, transit agencies, and state partners. The Fellow will work on SMI’s projects spanning community transportation planning, site design, mobility hub planning, bikeshare, and e-bike rebates. They will play a hands-on role in shaping practical, equitable mobility solutions that expand access to shared micromobility, transit, and other clean transportation options.
System Efficiency and Administration (approx.30%)
The Fellow will support day-to-day system administration, related to nonprofit management and grants. They will track key metrics, organize reporting materials, and help ensure documentation is accurate and submitted on time. The Fellow will also look for practical ways to simplify and standardize reporting across projects.
Program Support (approx.20%)
The Fellow will provide program support by overseeing trip activity and helping ensure services are operating as intended. The role will also support permitting processes and prepare professional documentation required by municipalities and partner agencies.
Design Support and Misc. Tasks (approx.10%)
The Fellow will provide occasional support in developing social media content and contributing to annual reports. This role will also assist with other tasks as needed to support Shared Mobility Inc.’s mission, stepping in where extra capacity is required to keep projects moving forward.
NYSERDA Climate Justice Fellowship Coursework (approx.10%)
The Fellow will undergo training and networking opportunities through the NYSERDA Climate Justice Fellowship program which provides professional development and hands-on experience in advancing equitable clean energy initiatives across New York State. The year-long fellowship includes regularly scheduled check-ins and a capstone research project.
Job Responsibilities

Collaborate with SMI’s team members to develop and implement mobility plans.

Create professional documentation, including reports, memos, and infographics to support SMI’s initiatives.

Support SMI’s reporting processes by assisting in Monthly data analysis and work tracking.

Assist in program oversight, including trip review and data analysis.

Enroll in and complete the NYSERDA Climate Justice Fellowship.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience or education in Urban Planning, public/nonprofit administration, project management, communications or related fields **Urban Planning Spring 2026 Graduates encouraged to apply

A strong understanding, interest in and enthusiasm about climate justice, shared transportation, mobility programs, planning and biking

Detail oriented, self-starting individual with the ability to work independently and with a team

Strong communication skills, including the ability to confidently support or lead presentations and engage in other activities with project partners and community stakeholders

Proficient in Google Drive and/or Microsoft Office Suite

Eagerness to learn in a dynamic work environment, particularly within an industry that values innovation and creative thinking

Salary range: $45,000 - $55,000 (based on candidate’s level of experience)
