Zipcar Acquires Buffalo CarShare

Zipcar’s acquisition restored a path to carsharing after insurance issues forced Buffalo CarShare to stop operating and left members without service.

Buffalo CarShare is extremely pleased to let you know that we’ve signed a tentative agreement with Zipcar in order to continue providing Buffalo’s residents, businesses, and students with affordable and convenient access to car sharing. For over six years, Buffalo CarShare has gradually paved the way for a global car sharing network to serve Buffalo – especially the underserved communities that need better access to transportation options. Insurance issues have caused us to cease operating, but our members will no longer be left stranded, thanks to this acquisition.

We expect an official announcement from Zipcar and Buffalo CarShare to be released in the coming weeks which will include further details regarding the acquisition and transition plan. In the near future, we will be communicating directly to our members on how they can begin to transition their membership to Zipcar.
